1951 DESOTO DELUXE, FAMOUS FOR IT'S "TOOTHY" GRILLE

THIS YEAR, THE DESOTO LINE WORE THIS NEW GRILLE, SOMETIMES CALLED THE TOOTHY FOR IT'S RESEMBLANCE TO A FINE SET OF CHROME TEETH. ALSO THIS YEAR DESOTO HAD LARGER WINDSHIELDS AND WIDER REAR GLASS. THE LINE-UP FOR DESOTO WAS DELUXE, CUSTOM, AND A SPORTSMAN HARDTOP, SUBURBAN, AND STATION WAGON. ALSO PRODUCED WAS A VERY RARE CARRY-ALL UTILITY SEDAN THAT FEATURED A FOLD-DOWN REAR SEAT WHICH WHEN FOLDED DOWN CREATED A 6 AND HALF BY 3 AND HALF FOOT CARGO AREA. DESOTO MODELS WERE BENEATH CHRYLSER THAT WOULD COMPETE AGAINST BUICKS AND MERCURY. DODGE CARS WERE BENEATH DESOTO WITH PLYMOUTH BENEATH DODGE. THE WEIGHT OF THIS 4-DOOR DELUXE IS 3525 LBS., COST $ 1986, AND 18489 FOUR DOORS WERE PRODUCED. THIS EXAMPLE IS STANDARD TRANSPORTATION IN 1951 JUST BASIC, NO FRILLS, SIMPLE TRANSPORTATION. BUT WHAT AN EXAMPLE OF AN ORIGINAL SURVIVOR! THAT FIGURE HEAD OF DESOTO AS A HOOD ORNAMENT IS A NICE TOUCH AS IS THE ORIGINAL PAINT AND PRESERVED INTERIOR.
