Ford vs.Toyota at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show

At the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, the battle for the hearts and minds of American car buyers started right at the convention hall entrance. Red vs. Blue. Japanese. vs American. Ford's blue oval vs. Toyota's whatever-the-hell-that-thing-is. A bird? A stylized "T"? Moving on. Both Ford and Toyota have hybrids. Both have crossovers. Both have full-size cars, mid-size cars, compacts and minis. Both have mid-size pickup trucks and SUVs and big, V8 pickups and SUVs (Ford's big V8 pickup, the F-series, is the best selling vehicle in the industry). Toyota may have a minivan, but calling a soccer-mom-Sienna a Swagger Wagon isn't going to make car guys drool and dream. Where Ford kicks Toyota's butt is horsepower, and the Mustang GT, Boss 302 and Shelby have plenty to spare. What you can't see here is that when that orange Boss 302 was on the dyno, the Toyota display emptied out. "Swagger Wagons", indeed. I'll take a red GT convertible, black interior. 6-speed, of course. And as few power options as possible. And to parents who think driving a minivan would make them uncool: You already are. If you've ever said the words, "Don't run!", "You'll spoil your appetite!" or "No shoes on our brand-new hardwood floors!", you've passed the point of no return. Think you're uncool now? Wait till your kids become teenagers, and you turn into those evil old crones who are trying to RUIN THEIR LIII-VES! Did I mention the part about the screaming arguments and the slamming bedroom doors? Oops. My <b>...</b>
