All New Nissan X-Trail Mark II

It's always a big challenge when a model has been doing exceptionally well and a successor has to be developed. The next model must be better or, at the very least, not lose the dominant position. That would have been the case with the Nissan X-Trail which has been the best-selling SUV in Japan. It was originally introduced as the company's first compact SUV to compete with the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Actually, Nissan did have a small SUV in the 1990s called the Mistral/Terrano II (jointly developed with Ford) which was primarily for Europe but that model was the old type of SUV. Being late may have been a slight disadvantage but Nissan made up for it by coming out with a SUV so well conceived that it went on to become the best-selling SUV in Japan for many years. At the time of its development, the alliance with Renault was already established and with a dynamic CEO like Carlos Ghosn, there was a lot of enthusiasm in product development. The team conducted extensive customer clinics and paid close attention to what customers wanted (and what they thought the other SUVs lacked). While the previous X-Trail boasted of an advanced 4WD system adapted from the Skyline (the ATESSA system) and the new one is also available with it, ETCM has chosen to offer only a front-wheel drive variant. Cost-saving is probably one factor and it's certainly good if it helps moderate the price since most of today's SUV buyers don't really use 4WD capabilities anyway. Even the more expensive <b>...</b>
