CONTEMPORARY CAR DESIGN / BEST CARS / SLIDE SHOW /SLIDES / DISEÑO AUTOMOTRIZ CONTEMPORÁNEO / ZEITGENÖSSISCHES AUTO DESIGN / DISEGNO AUTOMOBILISTICO CONTEMPORANEO This basic presentation is intended as a brief exposition of the design of the BMW Z4 roadster. This design concept was developed by Anders Warming, under the direction of Chris Bangle, Design Director of BMW from 1992 to 2009. The sample shown is a BMW Z4 3.0i roadster, produced between 2002 and 2006 prior to an ulterior facelift. This presentation intends to expose automotive design only. The line of design maintained by Mr. Chris Bangle during his tenure is considered to have been the first attempt to introduce deconstructivism or deconstructionism to automotive design, as it was done previously in mainstream architecture by authors such as Frank Gehry and others. That endeavour was itself an attempt to interpret the ontological and ethical assertions of philosophers such as Jacques Derrida and others, in what was called the deconstructivist school. The latter can be breifly interpreted as implying that, since the western ideologies of progress had created a redundant mass and dynamics of material as well as epistemological production, the task of thinkers would onwards be to deconstruct all what, not having had a fundamentation in self-evident systems of truth or ethics, need not have been brought to existence in the first place.
