2000 BMW 528 IT 2.8L M52TU Customer Complaint = Vehicle does not accelerate well, seems to be underpowered. Check engine light illuminated and a code P0340 (BMW 65) set Procedure: 1. Test wiring at the sensor connector: A. Pin 1 (Red/White wire) should have battery voltage with ignition on. B. Pin 2 (Yellow) should have 5V from engine control module. C. Pin 3 (Brown) is a ground. 2. As the cam turns, the 5V reference on pin 2 should switch on and off (5V square-wave digital signal). Potential Causes: Defective Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) Wiring Confirmed Fix: 3 - Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) 2 - Intake Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 1 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
