(info from www.groovychevy.com) It was 1911 when partners, Louis Chevrolet and William Durant founded the car company. With this simple partnership they became the founding fathers of something great and the beginning of automotive history was made.The powerful, five-passenger Chevrolet four-ninety Touring, priced at $735, was fully equipped for easy riding and handling. Both the Touring and Roadster had a four-cylinder, valve-in-head type motor with cast en-block cylinders, splash oiling system with gear pump and individual oil pockets. Also included on the Chevrolet 490 Touring and Roadster were a new improved Remy ignition, Zenith improved double jet carburetor, cone-type clutch, selective type transmission with three speeds forward and reverse. The service brakes were an external contracting type and the emergency brakes were an internal expanding type. The 490 Touring and Roadster also featured a drop-forged I-beam front axle and a three-quarter floating rear axle with Hyatt roller bearings. The artillery, wood type wheels had demountable rims and large hub flanges. The non-skid front and rear tires were 30 " x 3 1/2".
