All New 2010 Ford Fiesta Launcing Soon In Malaysia

With the new Ford Fiesta, to be launched in Malaysia in mid-October, Ford has certainly come a long way from the days when it 'cloned' Mazda models to stay in the game. Back in the late 1970s, the Japanese had all but completely taken over Asian car markets. The European carmakers just could not offer cars that were as cheap as the Japanese and built as well (not to mention cost less to run). Ford, however, chose not to be but it was that the Japanese were much more efficient at manufacturing cars and with high quality too. They had a lower cost base (which was grudgingly attributed to 'cheaper' labour costs) so their cars could be priced more attractively. Ford's European models like the first front-wheel drive Escort and the Sierra planned for the 1980s could not compete -- price-wise -- with the Japanese. Determined to stay in the game, Ford decided that 'if you can't beat them, then you should join them' and it bought a share in Mazda in 1977. The idea was that it would use Mazda's manufacturing efficiency to make lower-priced cars to sell in Asia. The first product was a pick-up known as the Courier but the Ford-Mazda association was not so apparent at that time. What really made the news was the model that Mazda launched as the 323 (Familia in Japan) and Ford sold as a Laser (Meteor in some markets).
