All New 2011 Ford Ka TDCi & Ford Mondeo ECOnetic
Description
Ford has announced two new ECOnetic models just hours before the cars' scheduled introduction in Paris. Emissions on the the Ford Ka ECOnetic and the Ford Mondeo ECOnetic are impressively low, thanks to several added technologies. The engines on both cars are fitted with start/stop, which helps the 1.3-liter TDCi Ka achieve fuel consumption of 4.1 liters per 100 km, or 57.4 mpg (US) and 68.8 mpg (UK). Emissions with the diesel are held to just 109 grams per kilometer. The start/stop enabled 1.2-liter petrol engine expels 115 grams of CO2 per km, while providing fuel economy of 4.9 liters per 100 km, or 48 mpg (US) and 57.6 mpg (UK). Designers also took a second look at the alternator, battery, starter motor and voltage stabilizer to work better with the start/stop. As an aide to the driver, a shift light has also been added. The car will be available with both engines beginning in November. Similar changes were made to the Mondeo, which gets a retuned 109 PS (85 kW) 1.6-liter TDCi. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission with a final drive ratio of 1:3.69, instead of 1:4.06. Combined with start/stop and and a and a new aerodynamic kit, the car uses just 4.3 liters of fuel per 100 km, or 54.7 mpg (US) and 65.6 mpg (UK). Emissions on the car are thus reduced to 115 grams of CO2 per km. The new Ford Mondeo ECOnetic will come out in the first quarter of 2011. Both the Mondeo and Ka ECOnetic are part of a Ford strategy to reduce fleet emissions by 30 percent ...
