Lot S136 1968 Ford Mustang GT Convertible 390/325HP 4-speed
Description
In its second year after an extensive restyling that saw the car grow in size, the 1968 Mustang GT found favor with the big block crowd. Its overall larger dimensions allowed Ford to install its 390 and 428 V-8s to compete with Chevrolet's new 396. The first large-displacement engine dropped into the 1967 model was the 390 rated at 320 horsepower, which Ford boosted to 325hp in 1968. The GT Equipment Group option package was still a bargain at $146.71. For less than the cost of an AM/FM radio, the GT package added grille-mounted fog lamps, power front disc brakes, chrome tipped dual exhaust, F70-14 tires on styled steel wheels with GT hubcaps, GT gas cap, the Handling Package, body-side "C" stripes, and front fender GT emblems. The Meadowlark Yellow convertible offered here is an exceptionally rare unrestored original 390 GT with highly desirable factory A/C. The numbers matching S-Code 390 and T-10 Toploader 4-speed are original to the car. Along with the GT Group, this lovely convertible is equipped with power steering, a power top, remote-control driver's mirror, center console and radio. This Mecum Star Car is a rare find in extraordinary condition.
