Local Mazda importer, Bermaz Motor Trading Sdn Bhd, has launched the Mazda8, a full sized MPV competitor that slots in above the Mazda5. Powered by the MZR 2.3 DOHC engine the new 8 offers lively performance and low emissions in a practical package. The gearbox is a 5-speed Activematic transmission that delivers smooth shifting as well as a tall final drive ratio for added high-speed cruising refinement. The suspension meanwhile is tuned to give sharp and sporty handling but also a smooth and comfortable ride. All-wheel ventilated disc brakes gives confidence-inspiring brake performance in all situations, while the system is tuned to give a natural feel to the driver when pressing the brake pedal. Electronic brake force distribution (EBD) is also standard, and maintains Mazda8's short stopping distances by varying brake force between the front and rear wheels according to the distribution of load and passengers. Dual front airbags for driver and passenger work in conjunction with front side airbags and curtain airbags covering all three rows of seats to give extra protection against side impacts. With a low floor and long wheelbase, the Mazda 8 gives everybody lots of room to stretch out. The seats get leather covers, while those in the second row can lean back in Ottoman style seating.
