Walka Water Works Miniature Railway
Description
A ride on the Walka Water Works Miniature Railway at Oakhampton Heights near Maitland, NSW, Australia on a blustery Sunday, 18 May 2008. This 7ΒΌ" gauge line runs from the preserved Victorian-era Walka pumphouse, to Snake Gully Junction, about 1km distant. Turntables are fitted at both termini and the locos are turned at each end of the journey. The railway is manned by volunteers who are in the process of rehabilitating the remaining track, which follows the old reservoir's shores for another 1km. 'Diesel' loco 8200 is powered by a 3-cylinder Daihatsu Charade petrol motor, coupled to a Datsun 1600 gearbox and Holden final drive, with chains delivering the power to the A-end bogie.
