Mazda MX-3 : Error Codes from the Diagnostic Connector
Description
My check engine light came on recently on my 1992 Mazda MX-3 (4cly 1.6L). So I read the error codes from the ECU. First find the diagnostic port , then connect a LED (with current limiting resistor ~500Ohms) from pin 1(-)to 4(+) and short pins 3 to 5 with a jumper wire; (top left is pin 1). You could optionally use a piezo horn or a voltmeter instead of the LED. Then turn on the ignition and count the pulses, a long pulse is = 10, and a short pulse is = 1. therefore a long pulse followed by 3 short pulses is the error code 13. I discovered error code 13 and 03. You can find the codes meanings here: troublecodes.net Code 03 is the Distributor - G or G1 Signal, and 13 is unimplemented.
