Arnold Stang on The Goldbergs, January 7, 1942
Description
In memory of Arnold Stang (1918-2009), here's an extended excerpt from the January 7, 1942 episode of the CBS radio serial The Goldbergs, where Stang played Seymour Fingerhood, the awkward teenager who carried a unrequited torch for Molly Goldberg's daughter Rosalie. This segment features what broadcast historian Elizabeth McLeod called "perhaps Stang's most impressive scene in the series". The Goldbergs (originally known as The Rise of the Goldbergs when it debuted on NBC in 1929) was created and written by Gertrude Berg, who also played Molly Goldberg. Also heard in this clip are Roslyn Silber as Rosalie and James R. Waters as father Jake. Note: I've done what I can to re-EQ the sound for easy listenability, but my source was a few analog generations away from the original, so the sound is still a bit murky in places.
