1961 Calgary Loop Rally - Historic 16mm motorsports film
Description
Canada Motor Sports From the Calgary Sports Car Club collection by kind permission Shawn Bishop. www.cscc.ab.ca 1961 Calgary Loop Rally. Here's a remarkable historical piece. 16mm color film footage with narration covering the 1961 loop rally around the Calgary area. Dig that crazy jazz beat! Look for some amazing cars including a gull wing Mercedes, yes, a gull wing. As well, look for MGAs, a 1957 Sunbeam Rapier, Triumph TR3, Alfa Romeo Guilietta, Daimler SP250, Porsche 356, Austin Westminster A99, Jaguar and more. The rally begins in Calgary and heads towards Banff, look for the old traffic circle at Minnewanka road, long since gone. Johnsons' Canyon road is also featured, town of Banff, Radium BC, The Beacon Hotel and Highlander hotel are glimpsed briefly, anyone remember Freakin' at the Beacon? Beautifully shot by photographers Sammy Rooker & David Fast, it's quite the treat to see what Calgary looked like nearly 50 years ago. A very big thank you to Shawn Bishop and the CSCC!
