New Chery Eastar 2.0

Description

When the Chery Eastar MPV was first imported to Malaysia as the B240 in July 2007, it came with a 2.4-litre engine which was somewhat larger than many buyers would have preferred. Though local assembly of the MPV from China did help boost sales (and make the Eastar the best-selling Chery model in Malaysia), it could probably have done better with a smaller engine. Chery Alado Automobile (CAA), the distributor in Malaysia, has now addressed that issue with the latest version which comes with a 2-litre engine. Unlike the 2.4-litre unit which was adapted from the Mitsubishi 4G64 engine, the new engine for the Eastar is Cherys own (developed with technical support from AVL of Austria) and comes from the ACTECO engine family. The DOHC 16-valve petrol engine, coded SQR-484F, produces 100 kW/136 bhp and 180 Nm of torque, with 90% of peak torque available from 2000 rpm, so its a fairly flexible engine. A lot of effort went into reducing Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) with good insulation and vibration dampers for the engine. Chery claims the engine is also fuel-efficient and meets Euro-4 emission control standards. The transmission is a modern 4-speed automatic gearbox with steptronic function, meaning the driver can also manually select gears in a sequential manner. Understanding that the Chinese brands are still new to Malaysians and have no track record for consumers to refer to, Chery is offering a 5 year/200000 km (whichever comes first) warranty for the ACTECO engine ...
