Ryno the Wino - Corsair Distillery in Nashville, TN - Gin & Triple Smoke Whiskey
Description
In early 2010, Corsair Artisan officially became a licensed brewery and distillery in the state of Tennessee. The Nashville facility is located in the Marathon Motorworks Village and provides the setting for brewing all of the whiskey mash. In addition to all the needed brewing equipment, Corsair's Nashville facility also boasts a 240 gallon still. This still is a circa 1920 classic pot still that survived prohibition. Originally a gin still, we use it for the first or "wash" pass when making whiskey. The unfinished whiskey spirit resulting from the first distillation, called low wines, is then finished in our 50 gallon spirit still. The Artisan Gin is made in very small batches using hand-hammered gin-head pot still. This uncommon step makes the gin crisp and very smooth on the finish. It's made with an unusual mix of traditional botanicals, all sustainably harvested, to give the gin a unique and refreshing character. For the Triple Smoke American Single Malt Whiskey they take three fractions of malted barley, each smoked by a different fuel -- cherry wood, peat, and beechwood -- to craft this deeply complex whiskey. Pot distilled then barreled in new charred oak, Triple Smoke has the sweetness and barrel notes of an American Whiskey and a single malt's rich smoke, broadened by tones of cherry and beech. www.corsairartisan.com
