SYLVIA LOPEZ Tribute ◊ with Steve Reeves ◊ Edmund Purdom
Description
This is a special tribute for tragic star Sylvia Lopez who only made 8 films before dying at the age of 27 of leukemia. Born Tatjana Bernt, Sylvia appeared in 3 PEPLUM films and yet left an indelible mark in the genre, certainly with her role as Queen Onfale of Lidia in HERCULES UNCHAINED co-starring Steve Reeves. It's reported that Lopez and Reeves were on-screen and off-screen lovers during the making that film, even though she was then recently married to musician Francis Lopez. Whether it's true or not, the two stars had amazing screen chemistry. The bit of dialogue when she says "Pearls must have contact with the flesh before they take their best sheen...tomorrow this necklace will be much more beautiful" is one of my favorite in any film. Perfect analogy for sex. In HEROD THE GREAT, the statuesque Sylvia, who was nearly 5'10" tall, held her own against British actor Edmund Purdom in another tragic role. The film is pretty good and is one of those forgotten PEPLUM dramas/romances made during the Sword & Sandal explosion. She also starred in a Swashbuckler called Son of the Red Corsair starring Lex Barker. I haven't seen that film yet and didn't include clips from that film. Sylvia had amazing screen presence and one can only imagine where her career would have went if she hadn't died at such a young age.
