1981 Mainframe Computer Animation. Coventry University
Description
This is my computer animated short from 1981. You could do this with Flash these days in an afternoon... but back then... It involved working out the X and Y coordinates to start and end points ... then I had to punch loads of data cards with the relevant binary code and then submit cards to computer dept , who then (having waited a week) output the relevant start, inbetween and end points as a series of dot matrix prints.. these I then made negative films of, back lit with a cyan gel, put on a rostrum camera and then did 25 frames a second stop frame animation on 16mm film. So much work !!! This was light years ahead of Tron!!! The music was done on a Wasp synthesizer and slowed to half speed on a Revox A77 tape deck and bounced to add reverb.
