People grabbing for water at the warehouse entrance of BJ's Wholesale Club in Revere, Massachusetts on May 1, 2010 at 7:24 PM. The female employee heard in the video repeatedly asking for people to back up was the first raised voice. Later, a louder voice informed those still not backing up that the world was not about to end. In one positive note, one woman lent another her two sons to retrieve a few cases of water. One police officer was already on hand as my father and I marvelled at the continuing scene with some other patrons. By the time we checked out, three police SUVs graced the store entrance. While I loaded the car my father returned to use the restroom, but wasn't allowed back in by another officer that arrived in one of two other police vehicles. I had never been involved with anything like this before, but part of me was amused at the sight. My mother was shocked at what I had considered a modest amount of water. The lesson I learned is not to judge yourself by members of the maddened mob around you. I hope the store learned its lesson and will craft some policies to handle widespread emergencies like this in the future. Now that I'm through with this little event, time to educate myself about where what water main broke when that caused such a panic.
