1965 Chrysler Newport

Description

Here's my "2006 remix" of video that was shot back in 1991 of my first car. The Newport had been resting in a cow pasture for 20 years until my Grandpa pulled it out and gave it to me for my 16th birthday. With only 27000 miles on the clock, we had the engine running after a basic rebuild including a new set of rings. I'll never forget the sound of Mopar big block running through open exhaust at 1:00 am when we fired it up for the first time. The video starts out with some stills but then moves into some halfway interesting video shot with one of those giant VCR-tape camcorders from back in the day. The music is the exact hair band stuff my brother and I had in the boom box while we resurrected this beast. My Dad deserves all the credit for making this project come together though. I spent the entire summer living off chocolate milk and pretzels in the daytime while I worked on this thing and by the evening I'd be stuck. For example I remember the trans crossmember being stuck in there super tight. Then Dad would come home from work and get things back on track again. He also managed to get F150 truck springs to fit in the old C-body since the original leafs were arced up instead of down. And he welded up about 40 feet of dual exhaust by hand with an oxy acetelene welder. The list goes on. Of course I don't have the car anymore. I heard it ended up in the junkyard somewhere after and altercation with a ditch, and I doubt I'll ever see it again. But I still go to junkyards ...
