www.shuttleworth.org Music Anmarsch by Heeresmusikkorps 9 der 1. Luftwaffe The Klemm Kl 35 was a German sporting and training aeroplane developed as a successor to the Kl 25. A product of Klemm Leichtflugzeugbau Gmbh it shared the same single-engine, cantilever low-wing configuration as the earlier machine. The fully aerobatics-capable aeroplane was shown for the first time publicly in October 1935 at the international Air Show in Milan. Soon after the end of the First World War Dr Ing Hans Klemm began designing lightplanes for the Daimler aircraft company at Stuttgart. In 1926 he left to form his own company, the first product of which was the L25 low wing tandem two seat monoplane which first flew in 1927, powered by a 20hp Mercedes engine. The basic design of the L25 proved a success and the aircraft was steadily developed with various and increasingly powerful engines. Several aircraft were fitted with floats or skis, some saw service with the newly formed Luftwaffe and a version was licence built in England as the BA Swallow. After developing larger versions of the L25 and various three and four seat cabin monoplanes, Klemm arrived at its next important design, the Kl 35, of which the prototype, the Kl 35a, first flew in 1935. This was another tandem two seat, open cockpit monoplane, but with an inverted gull wing and powered by an 80 hp inverted 4 cylinder air-cooled Hirth engine.
