Gray cat hisses at U-Control mini helicopter
Description
I bought two of these at Brookstone at the mall yesterday - one for me and one as a Xmas gift for a 12 year old. They sell for $30 on the website but they were selling them for $25 at the store. The guy in the store was demoing it and people were buying them up like crazy. Now granted he's had a lot of practice and he was good - he was flying rings around people in the store. I was skeptical how good I could fly it or how good a 12 year old could fly it. My first attempts were disasters - it didn't fly more than a few seconds and generally crashed into something. It tends to go into a spin when you first take off and you need to correct for it. You also need to constantly adjust the left/right trim as it changes as the battery runs down and the torque changes. My wife watched me fly it for a half hour last night and shook her head and went to sleep figuring we'd wasted out money and I was beginning to think so too. There's definitely a learning curve and I have an advantage in that I have flown model airplanes so I already am comfortable with things flying at me and with using subtle pressure on the control sticks. Before going to bed I tried one more time and suddenly got the hang of it. You need to give it full power and then throttle back to counter the torque. Then adjust the trim, the whole time just letting it fly in a lazy tight circle. The biggest problem is that the heli is MUCH more responsive to right turns than left turns and that's what was causing me ...
