Columbus High School Falcons Marching Band Competition Moonglow 2001-2002 Mississippi MS
Description
Recently, I came across these old marching videos and decided to upload them. So here it is, a throw back to the Columbus High School Marching Band's Jazz Show from the 2001-2002 school year. For the rest of the show (Chameleon, Danse Macabre and A Whiter Shade of Pale), check out my channel. There is also a good chance you can find the other videos in the "Related Videos" window. Brief history of "Moonglow"... This song was originally Written by Eddie De Lange, Will Hudson, Irving Mills. There were four different hit versions of Moonglow in 1934: big band leader Benny Goodman's, which went to No. 1; jazz great Duke Ellington's, which climbed to No. 2; singer Cab Calloway's, which peaked at No. 7; and saxophonist Glen Gray's, which reached No. 8. Two years later, Benny Goodman released a new version of Moonglow with his quartet (which featured Lionel Hampton) and watched his second recording of the song climb into the Top 10. The song was taken from the Broadway musical Blackbirds of 1934 and was written by lyricist Eddie DeLange with Will Hudson and Irving Mills. Moonglow was recorded by Billie Holiday for Verve Records in 1953. In 1956, conductor Morris Stoloff stayed at No. 1 for three weeks with an interpolation of Moonglow and another great Shapiro Bernstein song "(Theme from) Picnic", both of which were taken from the film Picnic.* *Taken from: www.shapirobernstein.com on 6/17/2010.
