Description

This is the Lightweight Small Arms Technologies (LSAT) program under development by AAI Textron Systems. This new weapon makes extensive use of polymers, including the belt feed and the ammunition. The disintegrating ammunition belt is manufactured in polymers and uses a new type of ammo; the Case-Telescoped Ammunition. the projectile is completely enclosed in the cartridge case and surrounded by propellant. This project is designed to serve as transition platform between the current ammunition and caseless ammunition developed in the 80's with experiments such as the HK G-11. In fact, the company has developed a new type of caseless ammo. The plastic parts represents a weight reduction of approximately 40% with CTA ammo, and 50% with the caseless ammo.
