1965 AMC MARLIN 2-DOOR FASTBACK, TWO YEAR RUN
Description
THE MARLIN WAS CREATED BY AMERICAN MOTORS TO COMPETE AGAINST OTHER CAR MAKERS WITH THEIR FASTBACK CARS. IN ACTUALITY, THE MARLIN WAS JUST A RAMBLER WITH A FASTBACK ROOF TACKED ON. BUILT ON A 112 INCH AMC CLASSIC CHASSIS AND POWERED BY A L-HEAD 6 CYLINDER, 232 CID, 145 HP ENGINE THAT ALSO POWERED AMBASSADOR AND CLASSIC MODELS, DID NOT CREATE THAT MUSCLE CAR FEEL. BUT, UNLIKE OTHER FASTBACK MODELS, THERE WAS PLENTY OF ROOM IN THE REAR SEAT AREA. MARLINS COULD COME IN OPTIONAL TWO AND THREE TONE PAINT SCHEMES, A THROWBACK TO PRE-AMC NASH AUTOMOBILES OF THE FIFTIES. THE MARLIN WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE AMC MODEL SELLING FOR $3100. THE FIRST YEAR RELEASE SOLD 10327 UNITS, BUT ONLY 4547 UNITS THE FOLLOWING YEAR WHEN THE MARLIN WAS DROPPED. VIEWING THIS ORIGINAL SURVIVOR MARLIN, IT HAS THE LOOK AND APPEARANCE OF A RAMBLER WITH THE MARLIN LOGO AND NAME PLATE THE ONLY DIFFERENCE. THE REAR END TAPERS NICELY BUT THE TRUNK LID OPENING IS RESTRICTED TO THAT TAPERED CENTER INSTEAD OF THE WHOLE REAR END. OVERALL THE MARLIN IS AN ATTRACTIVE CAR BUT PERHAPS IF IT HAD A MORE POWERFUL ENGINE AND PRESENTED ITSELF AS A REAL MUSCLE CAR THE SALES MIGHT HAVE BEEN HIGHER. THIS IS NOT ONLY AN ORIGINAL SURVIVOR BUT A RARE CAR SELDOM SEEN TODAY. Another rare original survivor brought to you by 55lincoln. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR VIEWING.
