02.16.10 - 2nd Alarm; 614 Walnut St., Allentown, PA
Description
At 2232 hours the box was transmitted for 614 Walnut Street - House Fire. Fire dispatch had visuals on the fire from a streetcam and told responding units they are gonna have work when they arrive! Engines 4, 9, 6, Truck 2 and Battalion 4 (Grim) take in the box. Upon arrival, B/C 4 transmits a "working fire" in a two-story S/F/D with commercial on first floor. Engine 4 stretches a handline into the building to the attic but encounter heavy fire conditions. B/C 4 signals for the EVAC tones and transmits a second-alarm. Engines 14, 10, 13, Air 1 and Cars 40, 41 and 47 respond. Three handlines are now in-service along with multiple master streams. As the fire consumes the roof of the original fire building, crews work to save the exposures on both the attached Bravo side and the detached Delta side. Truck 2, a new KME tower ladder is in-service but because of some type of failure, cannot flow water. Squirt 6 is moved up and replaces the tower ladder. The fire was darkened down around midnight and leaves 1 adult and 4 children homeless. Red Cross is called to assist the family.
