2004 Audi A4 (B6) 1.8T multitronic Problem

Description

My car threw this error one afternoon on the way to home from work. Unlike the "flash of death" which requires the CVT controller to be replaced, this one is a static warning (as can be seen in the video)... The gearbox still worked perfectly, except the "manual mode", which did not work at all (Drive and Sport mode worked without any issues). I immediately phoned my local Audi Centre (Cape Town) and arranged to pop in the next morning. Rudi, one of their top mechanics, scanned my car using VAG-Com and gave me some good news for a change... Under the cover surrounding the gear selector, there is a circuit board with two magnets, located under the "+" and "-". To sort this problem out (if you're lucky, like I was) simply open the cover up, then clean and re-align the two magnets - problem solved :)
