For a peppy and extremely well designed vehicle that is skimpy on petrol use, the A170 has all this and more. Fire the little Mercedes-Benz A170 up, and the motor spins freely into life. The 1.7 litre engine breathes in normally aspirated fashion and has fuel injection that, with pin-point accuracy, feeds the fuel into the combustion chamber with frugality always its main goal. The 85 kW engine is a four cylinder unit that loves to perform, making the 0-100 km/h sprint in an accomplished ten to eleven second bracket. Whether in three-door or five-door guise, and whether linked to the smooth five speed manual gearbox or smooth CVT, progress is always swift and in control.
