Lot S128 1971 Mercury Cougar 429 Cobra Jet 4-speed

Description

Mercury was a force in mid-sixties factory FX racing with its crazy 427 Comets, but by the late sixties had become identified more with luxury than performance. One of the exceptions to this trend was the Cougar, which earned a serious performance reputation in both drag and road racing. A genuine all-matching-numbers concours-quality example of Mercury's ponycar is offered here in the form of this singularly rare 1971 Cougar 429 Cobra Jet 4-speed. Only 18 1971 Cougars were equipped with this top-of-the-line power combination; this car is the only one of that group originally finished in Black. Fresh from a private Cobra Jet collection, the car's no-expense-spared restoration is evident in every detail from its as-new exterior finish and brightwork to the impeccable Medium Green interior that includes the unmistakable Hurst T-handle shifter. This is the sort of presentation that comes from pride of both ownership and craftsmanship. A factory A/C car with power steering and brakes, this rare and remarkable car comes with complete documentation that includes a Marti Report. Highlights: - One of one Black 429 Cobra Jet 4-speed with A/C - No-expense-spared rotisserie restoration - Concours-quality presentation - Complete documentation includes Marti Report
