Description

Replacement of ceiling upholstery ("hemel" in Dutch language) on Volvo 760 GLE Estate. Pre 1990 Volvos 740 and 760 suffered from disintegration of the sponge filling between the fabric and fiberglass-enforced cardboard basis for the ceiling, and (after many years of service) these ceilings would simply start to fall of. The part itself can still be ordered for certain models, and replacement is not complicated and can be done in DIY arrangements (even only one person can replace it successfully). It is not possible to do a good job with hand made parts or reapirs of broken hemels. Volvo 940 ceilings can be used for 740/760 cars, those 940 ceilings were made with different materials and do not suffer from the same problems. Many 1980's Volvos 740 and 760 ended their lives because of this problem - apart from this problem, those Volvos were (especially 4 cylinder cars) probably the best cars of its size and type ever made by the car industry.
