1970 Lincoln Mark III Dual Cowl Prototype
Description
Based on a Lincoln Mark III, this unique styling exercise was designed under the guidance of Ford styling chief Larry Shinoda and built by Kar Kraft for the 1969/1970 show season. A two-door, dual-cowl design, it also features unique front and rear styling and a handsome silver finish. Shown at the Texas State Fair, as well as the Detroit, Chicago, and New York Auto Shows in 1970, the car was loaned for display purposes to Marcelino Mercury of Puerto Rico, the most successful Lincoln-Mercury dealer outside of the Continental 48. While originally slated for return and destruction one year later, the tireless lobbying of Marcelino Rivera saved the car, and in fact, Ford awarded it to Rivera in recognition of the phenomenal growth of his dealership. Lovingly restored by the owners son in 1991, the car is now offered publicly for the first time in its history. RM Auctions is pleased to present this car, along with hundreds of others at its Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale event to be held February 6-8 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in sunny Fort Lauderdale, FL.
