Eventually found the parking place and headed to the Archives. Very nice people. Almost immediately I located George Lindley's baptismal record. It says "George, son of Anne Lindley (Spinster)" baptised at All Saints, Cawthorne, which means he was probably also borrn there. The rest of the day I read various publications of Wilhemina Stirling, a descendant of the Spencer Stanhope family. There were about 3 books Anna Maria Diana Wilhelmina (nee)Pickering STIRLING (F: 1865 Aug 26 - 1965 Aug 11) (&ps: Percival PICKERING), Coke Of Norfolk And His Friends [2v|1908], Annals Of A Yorkshire House [1911], The Letter-Bag Of Lady Elizabeth Spencer-Stanhope (ed) [1913] While these were not specifically on Lindleys, they did offer the ambiance of the time. They were rather huge books and took me the better part of the time I spent there to skim through them for Lindley references - there weren't any - but I was able to put some "Life and Times" things in perspective. I then headed back to Cawthorne, a route I was beginning to get somewhat used to. It was a lovely late afternoon and I decided to take a walk via footpaths and <b>...</b>
