Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the US-spec 2012 Jetta GLI. Described as the "most differentiated" GLI ever made, the car features modified bumpers, a honeycomb grille, smoked taillights, a dual exhaust system, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Three trim levels will be offered, but the entry-level model comes nicely equipped with sport seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, aluminum trim, and alloy pedals. Moving up to the GLI Autobahn adds a sunroof, dual zone climate control, heated leatherette seats, a Fender premium audio system, and 18-inch alloy wheels. If that doesn't impress you, the range-topping Jetta GLI Autobahn with Navigation boasts all the aforementioned equipment as well as GPS navigation and a push-button ignition. Under the hood, power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS) and 207 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed manual transmission, but a six-speed DSG automatic is also available. Besides the 2.0T, the GLI is also equipped with a sport-tuned suspension, an XDS cross differential, and four-wheel disc brakes with floating red calipers.
