Whining sound drivetrain peugeot 205 1.1i

Description

My 205 started making this sound on and off some time ago, and it disappears when you push the trottle or brake hard enough. It does not change when pressing or depressing the clutch or changing gears. It's audible at every speed between 40 and 120 km/h and reduces to a sqeaky sound (like rubber on plastic) if you listen very closely at speeds below 10 km/h. What could this be?
