Alison Frazer as the young Mary Tudor
Description
Clips from the series 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII' starring Alison Frazer as Herny VIII's daughter, Mary. Slight point -- the scene where Henry is supposed to have claimed before the court that some persons wished to kill Mary and that Queen Jane replied that it would be a shame for him to loss his 'chief jewel' is fictitious. The story arises from an account which does not correspond with the dates of where the King, the Queen and Mary were supposed to be on the days the story is set. Also according to the story, Henry is supposed to have mentioned Jane's pregnancy to the court however Jane was not pregnant yet by the time Mary was welcomed back to court. Mary finally relented to her father's demands in 1536 and acknowledged that he was Head of the Church of England and that her parents had never been lawfully married. According to the Spanish ambassador Chapuys, Mary is said to have been consumed with remorse over her actions and begged him to obtain a special dispensation from Rome to ease her conscience. Ironically one of her first acts as Queen was to ensure that her parent's marriage was to be declared valid.
