Land Rover Range_e plug-in hybrid debuts in Geneva
Description
Land Rover has brought the new Range_e plug-in hybrid, based on the Range Rover Sport model, to the Geneva floor. The Range_e is a diesel-electric hybrid that couples the 245 PS (180 kW / 242 bhp) 3.0 liter TDV6 diesel unit with a 69 kW (94 PS / 93 bhp) electric motor. Total output is 339 PS (249 kW / 334 bhp). Transmission is an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox while the electric motor is powered by a 14.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. Range in electric mode is 20 miles (32 km) while total range can go up to 690 miles (1112 km) on a full tank of diesel fuel. Fuel-economy and CO2 emission figures are a little skepticism-inducing, especially for a 4WD, but we will report them as Range Rover lists them in the press release: 85 mpg (imperial) / 3.36 liters/100 km and 89 g/km, respectively. Land Rover is still testing the model but is developing the Range_e as a production vehicle which the automaker intends take to market.
