World's Fastest Airplane, SR-71

Although Russia may have the world's largest airplane (the Russian Antonov 225), the US has the fastest. The SR-71, Blackbird, has a top speed of Mach 3.5 -- more than 3 times the speed of sound. Its actual top speed may be classified, but much higher. It is 107 feet long with a maximum altitude of over 100000 feet and has stealth capabilities. Some think a replacement, the Aurora, is entering service. The SR-71 is one of the first Stealth Aircraft, because of its design and coating. The SR-71 may still be the world's fastest airplane. Some may have been brought back into service. Another large airplane is the Airbus A380 superjumbo to Singapore Airlines ends the 747's astonishing 40-year reign as the world's largest jetliner. The A380 is larger than any plane most fliers will have ever see.
