Entry from: Tokai-mura, Japan Entry Title: "Tokai-mura" Entry: "Hi everybody! Here's another Japan travel blog for you. We're here for 5½ weeks this time. Bernd is working with his Japanese collaborators, and I'm along for the adventure of it. As you're probably aware, we spent 2 months here in 2007 while Bernd was on sabbatical -- had a blast and did a lot of exploring. This time he has more work to do, it's not as new to us, and we have less time. Therefore, this travel blog will not be as extensive as the previous one, and I may refer back to it from time to time. It is still posted out here on Travel Pod: www.travelpod.com so feel free to peruse it if you're interested. Bernd is a physicist, and he's involved in research at the new Japanese high-intensity accelerator they have built here in Tokai called J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex). Tokai-mura (mura means village) is a town of about 35000 people on the east coast of Honshu, about 140 km (84 mi) NE of Tokyo (see map above). There's not a lot here in the vicinity -- the JAEA (Japan Atomic Energy Agency) has been doing nuclear energy research here since the 1950's. Other than that, it's a very rural, flat, farming area. However, that makes for great bike riding, and there's even a fairly nice beach not far from where we're <b>...</b>
