All New 2010 Honda Fit EV Concept

Description

Well, its here, just as Honda promised. The new EV concept vehicle is one based on the Honda Fit and comes accompanied by a new platform for a mid-sized plug-in hybrid model. Honda has premiered the new Honda Fit EV concept at the Los Angeles auto show - a model headed for production which will be introduced into the Japanese and US markets in 2012. Details on the Fit EV are few, though. All Honda says is that the all-electric version of the 5-door compact hatch is powered by a lithium-ion battery fueling a coaxial high-density electric motor derived from the FCX Clarity fuel cell electric car. No power figures are given. Honda says the Fit EV will have a top speed of 90 mph (145 km/h) and a range of 100 miles (160 km) on the US EPA cycle. It will have a 3-mode driving system - Econ, Normal and Sport. Charging will take 'less than' 12 hours on a conventional 120-volt outlet and less than 6 hours with a 240 volt one. The new plug-in hybrid technology that Honda has debuted is for an unspecified mid-range model. It features a 6kWh lithium-ion battery and a 120 kW electric motor (161 bhp / 163 PS). In electric mode the plug-in hybrid model has a range of around 10-15 miles (16 to 24 km) in city driving and features a top highway speed of 62 mph (100 km/h). Recharging the batteries takes 2 to 2.5 hours with a 120-volt outlet - half that with a 240 volt charging station. The engine on the new plug-in hybrid system is a 2.0 liter i-VTEC inline 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine ...
