1962 Studebaker Lark DeLuxe V-8 2-door Sedan.MP4

Description

Here's my 1962 Studebaker Lark DeLuxe two-door sedan. It has the 180 HP 259 V-8, stick shift with overdrive and 3.73 Twin-Traction differential. it also has the reclining seats. It's original except for the paint job and has 24700 actual miles. When I got it in 2008, bought from a collector at the Pate Swap Meet above Ft. Worth, TX it had just over 22000 miles on it. On the day the seller delivered it to me the odometer lined up 22222.2 miles and I took a picture of it. If you see a resemblance in the grille to that of a Mercedes-Benz, it is entirely intentional. In the late '50s and early 60's, Studebaker was the distributor for MB in this country--it didn't have nearly the market penetration that it does today and needed an established outlet for sales. The Lark was introduced in 1959 and had virtually no visual changes made through 1961. Sales were sagging, so a freshening in appearance was needed. Studebaker received permission from MB to design a grille similar to their and the rest is history--quad headlights were also added in place of the singles of '59-'61. Sales once again rebounded!
