BUICK FOR 1941 OFFERED 26 BODY STYLES WITH 5 SEPARATE SERIES. ALL MODELS THIS YEAR HAD HEADLIGHTS INCORPORATED WITHIN THE FRONT FENDERS AND RUNNING BOARDS WERE FINALLY ELIMINATED. AND THIS WAS THE LAST YEAR FOR CONVERTIBLE PHAETONS. SERIES 40'S WERE THE LOW END OF BUICK MODELS. THIS SERIES 40 SPECIAL WEIGHS 3790 LBS., COST $ $1134 NEW BUT ONLY 13402 PRODUCED. POWERPLANT IS A FLAT HEAD STRAIGHT 8 CYLINDER, 248 CID THAT PUT OUT 115 BHP. THE HOOD OPENED FROM EITHER SIDE AND WAS MAINTENANCE EASY. NOOKING AT THIS FINE TWO-TONE, PALE GREEN OVER OLIVE GREEN EXAMPLE, YOU WILL NOTICE A RARE FOG LAMP OPTION AND ENGINE TURNED METAL PANELS ON THE DASH. THE TRIM ON THIS CAR IS IN GREAT SHAPE - AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT IN THE RESTORATION PROCESS, FOR TRIM PARTS ARE HARD TO FIND. AT THE REAR NOTICE THE BACK-UP LAMPS AND THE THIRD TAIL LIGHTS IN THE CENTER OF THE TRUNK - A SAFETY ITEM INSTALLED LONG BEFORE FEDERAL MANDATED REAR CENTERED TAIL LIGHTS.
