Merkur XR4Ti Failing Power Steering Rack

Description

The steering rack in my Merkur XR4Ti has worn severely over the last several years since a catastrophic leak allowed all the fluid to drain out while on the highway. The damage was slow in coming but made the car less entertaining to drive because the worn steering rack allowed substantial dynamic alignment changes. It felt like a worn suspension component. It's difficult to get a car to handle well when there is deflection like this in the components that control alignment.
