1965 Chrysler New Yorker - Test Drive!
Description
I've finally put together a video of us test driving a classic! This time, the vehicle of interest is a '65 Chrysler New Yorker, 4-door hardtop. This full-size luxury cruiser was equipped with an automatic transmission and loaded with power features, including power windows, brakes, and a remote operated antennae which could be raised and lowered via a switch mounted on the dash. The '65 model year marked a turning point for Chrysler, having put to rest the push-button automatic transmission controls ( which had been a mainstay since 1956 ) in favor of a more conventional column shifter. It was also the last year of the 413 V8, which in this model was rated at 340 horsepower. The styling of the New Yorker was similar to the 300 series, having included those very distinctive glass covers that protected the headlights. I found that despite it's size and weight, the New Yorker certainly has adequate acceleration to keep up with most anything else on the road these days, providing a comfortable ride and great visibility. Altogether, I'd have to say that is a rare treat to drive an often overlooked Mopar. You won't often see a car this age so well-preserved, looking and running as good as it did 40 years ago!
