1947 CADILLAC SERIES 62 CONVERTIBLE - POST WAR LUXURY
Description
I HAD ONE OF THESE ONLY IT WAS A FORTY-SIX CONVERTIBLE. HERE ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A 46 AND A 47: ONE LESS HORIZONTAL BAR ON THE " EGG CRATE " GRILLE, CADILLAC NAME ON FRONT FENDERS IN SCRIPT VS. BLOCK LETTERS ON 46, GRAVEL GUARD ON REAR FENDER IS CHROME VS. RUBBER, INSIGNIA ON TRUNK LID VS. CADILLAC EMBLEM AND " V " . OTHER THAN THESE, BOTH YEARS ARE THE SAME. BOTH YEAR MODELS POWERED BY A 346 CID, 150 BHP, ENGINE THAT WAS USED IN US TANKS DURING WWII AND WERE STILL PAINTED OLIVE DRAB ON CAR ENGINES. HYDRA-MATIC TRANSMISSION WERE STANDARD ALONG WITH POWER WINDOWS, RADIO, POWER CONVERTIBLE TOP, AND UNDER-THE-SEAT HEATERS. PONTOON FENDERS AGAIN WERE FEATURED AND THE EGG CRATE GRILLE WAS BECOMING THE FAMOUS CADILLAC IDENTIFYER. THE GAS FILLER NECK IS BENEATH THE LEFT REAR TAIL LIGHT. JUST LIFT UP THE CHROME HOUSING WITH THE SMALL REFLECTOR AND THERE LIES THE GAS CAP. THE BACK UP LIGHT IS MOUNTED ON THE REAR AND THE REAR LICENSE PLATE IS ILLUMINATED ON EACH SIDE. LEATHER AND BEDFORD CLOTH DECORATED THE SEATS, INTERIOR SIDES AND DOOR PANELS. MY 46 CADDY WAS PAINTED IN GUNMETAL GRAY AND HAD MAROON LEATHER AND LIGHT TAN CLOTH INTERIOR. SINCE FORTY SIX WAS THE FIRST YEAR FOR CAR PRODUCTION AFTER THE WAR, ONLY 1342 CONVERTIBLES WERE MADE. 1947 CONVERTIBLE COUNT IS 6755. SO BOTH YEARS ARE RARE IN PRODUCTION AND I WISH I STILL HAD MY 46 RAGTOP. IT WAS QUITE A JOY TO OWN. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR VIEWING THIS RARE AND CLASSY CADDY CONVERTIBLE.
