AMC shocked the automotive world when it came out in 1968 with the AMX. At the time the only American build steel bodied two seat car. AMX stands for the concept name of American Motors eXperimental this car was given in the design/concept phase. The American SAE recognized AMC for Best Engineered Car of the Year in 1969for many industrial first such as injection molded dashes for safety and 390ci V8 was designed to use 290 and 343 components. Under the hood of this 1969 AMX is the numbers matching 343ci 4-bbl V8 Typhoon motor which produced 280hp and 365ft-lbs of torque at 3000 rpm.
