Aston Martin Twenty Twenty 2020
Description
Exo-skeleton is not a word usually associated with cars, but it certainly describes the look of ItalDesign's Twenty Twenty Aston Martin concept car, whose body is highlighted by the structural members that make up its aluminium spaceframe chassis. The Twenty Twenty (a reference to the year Ital thinks such a car might go on sale) is based on a DB7 V12 and the mechanicals have been supplied by Aston itself, which keenly followed the project. The effect of highlighting the aluminium frame is striking, initially taking the eye away from the car's shape, which is not unlike the Vanquish in places such as the grille and rear wing. Like the Vanquish, the Twenty Twenty manages to combine classic elegance with modernity and a look of latent muscularity. It has to be said, though, that the Vanquish is the better-looking car. Inside the Twenty Twenty, there's a mix of leather, wood and aluminium, while the facia is unusual in that its top section sits slightly above the dashboard to allow air to pass underneath, providing ventilation. The Twenty Twenty is very unlikely to see production, but the construction of the new Vanquish is such that it is not impossible for coachbuilders such as ItalDesign to produce limited-edition variations on it. Which, no doubt, is what ItalDesign is hoping for.
