1950 PONTIAC CHIEFTAN CATALINA HARDTOP COUPE, SILVER STREAK BEAUTY
Description
THE FEATURE THAT STANDS OUT YET AGAIN ON PONTIACS ARE THE SILVER STREAKS LOCATED ON THE HOOD AND TRUNKLID, A STANDARD TRIM PIECE SINCE '39 AND ALWAYS IDENTIFIED PONTIACS. ALSO NOTEWORTHY IS THE AMBER INDIAN HEAD HOOD ORNAMENT THAT WAS LIT WHEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING. THIS PONTIAC HARDTOP IS ANOTHER CAR WHERE TECHNOLOGY HADN'T ARRIVED YET FOR MAKING A ONE PIECE CURVED REAR WINDOW / BACKLIGHT. SO IT'S A 3-PIECER. THIS SIERRA RED OVER SAN PEDRO IVORY PONTIAC HAD A SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE OF $2069 AND WAS POWERED WITH AN L-HEAD 8 CYLINDER, 268 CID THAT PRODUCED 108 HORSES. A SIX CYLINDER WAS ALSO AVAILABLE WHICH WAS 239 CID AT 90 HP. WHEN TAPING THIS CAR I COULDN'T OPEN THE DOOR AND HAD TO CAREFULLY SLIP MY CAMERA THROUGH THE OPENING OF THE DRIVER'S WINDOW TO SHOW OFF THE PLUSH INTERIOR. I'M GLAD I DIDN'T DROP THE CAMERA INSIDE! I REALLY APPRECIATE THE GRILLE DESIGN, SOMBRERO WHEEL COVERS, THE CENTER DASH GRILLE, AND THE "STARS" ON THE TRUNKLID THAT EVENTUALLY SHOWED UP ON PONTIACS FOR A FEW YEARS. THANKS FOR VIEWING THIS SPLENDID PONTIAC CHIEFTAN HARDTOP COUPE.
