The second release for Rebel Records and the first all-gospel album from Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, Hymns From The Hills is a culmination of a Mullins family tradition of presenting bluegrass gospel on radio, records and in person. As the son of Paul "Moon" Mullins, a southern Ohio DJ and famed fiddler, Joe Mullins grew up not only listening to bluegrass gospel music, but was also surrounded by the music's legendary performers such as Larry Sparks, Doyle Lawson, Ralph Stanley and Paul Williams, all who helped mold his love for good music as well as the life he would choose to live. Mullins spent his younger years playing music full-time and being an on-air radio personality. In 1995, Mullins began purchasing southern Ohio radio stations, providing the opportunity for full-time on-air work presenting bluegrass, classic country and old-time gospel music. In addition to raising a family, Mullins found the time to become a member of the bluegrass supergroup Longview and enjoyed success with the band, garnering the IBMA's (International Bluegrass Music Association) Song of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year awards in the late 1990's.
