Miori Oka Miori is the Program Manager of Ashoka's Youth Venture Japan. She graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2008 with a Master of Education in Risk & Prevention. Miori has worked with youths in various capacities: as a social worker, a teacher, a researcher, and a program manager. She has worked particularly with immigrant youths, incarcerated youths, and youths in foster care. Prior to Ashoka, Miori worked at the Bank of Japan and two nonprofit organizations. At the Association for Aid and Relief Japan, Miori helped develop and manage the Landmine Risk Education Program in Afghanistan. At Multicultural Center Tokyo, she ran the Tabunka Free School for immigrant teens who cannot attend school because of their age or the language barrier. Miori's passion lies in spotting potential in youths and fostering their motivation, growth, and capacity for change. Oka Miori believes that youths are masters of relations building, which is critical in any social movements. She shares her experience, as a teacher, of how youth on the contrary taught and trained her. Maria, a 16 year old in Boston, taught her just to listen in stead of trying to solve Maria's problems. The 3rd and 4th graders in the Capital City Public Charter school in Washington DC taught her how not to treat anyone like a kid.
