1960 Plymouth Valiant 4 door sedan

Description

Detroit was getting worried! That pesky VW bug was selling well..and it didn't appear to be just a fad..and Detroit was not good at making low cost vehicles profitably! Enter the compacts of 1960...Corvair, Falcon and Valiant. Rambler was already successful in the field. The Valiant had an amazing slant 6 ohv engine that had tremendous torque because of its long stroke. The pushbutton Torqueflite gave the impression of an upscale little car. It had nice extras like an alternator, while the competition had generators. The most controversial thing about the car was the unusual "European" styling, epitomized by the stylized spare on the decklid. The actual spare resided in a compartment in the trunk floor. The following year, Dodge introduced a spinoff of this car, the Lancer!
